Honey Simple Syrup for Gin Julep Recipe
Ingredients:
- 1 cup water
- 1 cup honey
- Fresh mint leaves (optional, for added flavor)
Instructions:
1. Combine Ingredients: In a saucepan, combine 1 cup of water and 1 cup of honey. If you'd like to add a hint of mint flavor, which is encouraged, you can also include a handful of fresh mint leaves. While you’re at it, add some lime rinds or juice for a citrusy hint. Alternatively, you can sub this out and sub in any herbs like rosemary or orange to create syrup for other types of drinks.
2. Heat and Stir: Place the saucepan over medium heat and stir continuously until the honey has completely dissolved into the water. Continue to heat the mixture until it comes to a gentle simmer. This should take about 5-7 minutes.
3. Simmer: Once the mixture starts simmering, reduce the heat to low and let it simmer for an additional 2-3 minutes. This helps to infuse the mint flavor if you've added mint leaves.
4. Cool: Remove the saucepan from heat and let the honey simple syrup cool to room temperature. As it cools, the syrup will thicken slightly.
5. Strain: If you used herbs, citrus, etc., be sure to strain the syrup through a fine-mesh sieve to remove the remnants.
6. Store: Transfer the honey simple syrup to a clean, airtight container or a glass bottle. Seal it tightly, and you can store it in the refrigerator for up to two weeks.
Now you have a delightful honey simple syrup that can be used in your Gin Julep recipe or any other cocktails that require sweetening. Enjoy your Gin Julep with this homemade honey simple syrup!
